U.S. M1956 2nd Pattern Field Pack

This is a good example of an M1956 2nd pattern field pack, more commonly known as the "Butt Pack" due to its position when worn. It is also known by collectors as the M1961 field pack due to its introduction date. The 2nd pattern field pack differs from the 1st pattern by having a weatherproof neck seal, where the 1st has fold-over flap side extensions which was considered less effective in keeping personal items dry. The 2nd pattern field pack was also slightly larger. This example is dated 1962.
