British Made MK1 Type B U.S. Brodie Helmet
This is a a British made MK1 type B helmet with the rubber doughnut ring in the liner which was introduced in 1917. The British made helmets are identified by the split pin to the chinstrap suspension loops, where the U.S. M1917 are riveted. This example is in excellent condition, maker marked "HS" for Hadfields, Sheffield and has the divisional insignia of the 78th Infantry Division. When the U.S. entered the war and arrived in France it was initially supplied with British MK1 and French M15 helmets, until the U.S. started to manufacture their own version of the British Brodie, which the U.S. designated it as the M1917 helmet.
