Kreigsmarine Peildiopter

This is a Kreigsmarine Peildiopter which is a precision navigational instrument which was mounted on top of the ships magnetic or gyro compass to take highly accurate bearings of celestial bodies such as the sun or stars. It is equipped with a prism and mirror system for safely taking sightings of the sun without causing eye strain or damage, It also has shadow pins used to observe shorelines and distant targets, It is stamped with a stylized "M" for Marine and Kreigsmarine eagle. The 427 is serial number and 172 is the equipment number. FRM is the manufacturer's code for Mashinenbau Rudolf Werth. The actual optic is clear and in working condition.
