German M36 Helmet

A interesting M36 helmet which appears to have had a white band painted completely around the helmet which has been removed, but traces are still visible. Th outer shell also has specs of different colour paints spots. The traces of the white band may indicate the helmet could have been used by the Polish Home Army during the Warsaw uprising. The majority of the members of the Polish Home Army wore captured German equipment and would paint a white band round the helmet to identify themselves to friendly forces. I suspect this may be the case with this example. However i can not confirm this is the actual fact and stress its only my opinion. The aluminium liner band is the later single piece type more commonly used on later pattern helmets such the M40 and M42, M36 helmets tended to be re-enforced. The leather liner has slightly perished but still attached. The chinstrap is in very good condition. The inside of the shell is stamped ET.64. ET, is the makers code for Eisen-u.Huttenwerke AG Thale. The number 64 is the size size. This helmet is also stamped with the batch number 653
