German S84/98 Bayonet.

A early Third Reich era S84/98 bayonet more commonly referred to as the K98 bayonet. This example dates from 1934/35 as it is not phyiscally dated. Instead a year letter coded K and G for 1934 and1935 was used. This was in direct violation of the Treaty of Versailles which only allowed Germany to have a minimal size armed forces and tightly controlled production of war material. The year letter codes where used in secret, not to make the Allies, France and the United Kingdom aware Germany was re-arming. However in 1936 the Treaty of Versialles was literally ripped up by Hitler and weapons started to be physically dated with year of manufacturer. The bayonet has the makers code S184G the letter G for the year 1935, S184 for Remascheider Hobelmesser-Fabrik. The scabbard has the manufacturer's code S173K, the letter K for 1934 and S173 for Alexander Coppel. The pommel and scabbard have Reichswehr proof markings which continued to be used in conjunction with Third Reich proof markings to the late 1930's. This is an age restricted item. Proof of age must be provided. This item will not be sent to a residential address. Face to Face collection Only.
