This is a nice example of the M1894 flare pistol which was the standard flare pistol used by the Imperial German army during WW1. The M1894 flare pistol continued to be used by rear echelon units of the Wehrmacht during WW2. The pistol is sometimes referred to as the Hebel, which actually means "Lever Acton".
