Royal Artillery G.S. Beret

A General Service Beret with the unit flash of the Royal Artillery. The G.S. beret was first introduced in September 1943 as a wartime measure to replace the G.S. side cap. An extremely rare untouched MKII helmet which as the unique camouflage scheme only worn by members of the Maltese garrison. The shell also has the unit flash of the Royal Artillery. The shell is dated 1939 and has a large letter "C" with a small "S" within its centre. Which identifies the manufacturer as Steel Ceilings LTD. South African MKII Helmet

A nice example of a South African MKII helmet retaining its original desert paint scheme, which has a ruff textured finish. The rear of the visor has three small holes which allowed a cotton neck protector to be attached protecting the wear from sunburn. The MK1 liner is maker marked Jager Rand and dated 1942. This is in fact a World War One era MK1 brodie helmet which was refurbished for the British army in 1938. The shell is in very good condition with a refurbishment date of 1938.
