This is a S84/98 bayonet for use with the K98 rifle. This example is maker marked 'S/239", which identifies the manufacturer as Richard Herder, Stahlwaren-u.Werkezeugfabrik. The makers code is followed with a secret year letter code "K" for 1934. This was used when German was secretly re-arming in breach of the Treaty of Versailles.
